If you've yet to take the plunge into the world of streaming or if you just want to venture outside the world of Netflix, there's no better time than the present.
But first, you'll want to consider which Stan plan is right for you. To help, we've broken down what you'll pay for each Stan subscription tier, what's included, plus what you need to know before you join.
What does Stan cost?
Stan is available in three different price packages: $10 per month, $14 per month, and $19 per month. You get access to the same movies and shows on all plans; how much you pay determines the quality you can watch at, the number of devices you can use for offline viewing, and how many devices can be streaming simultaneously.

For the most part, Stan is priced in line with what you'd pay for an Australian Netflix subscription. The one exception to this is when it comes to 4K streaming. You'll pay $19 per month for Stan's Premium plan, versus $19.99 per month Netflix's top-end option.

Which Stan plan is best for me?
What Stan plan you subscribe to will depend on how many people in your home will be watching, how you plan to watch, and your preferred picture quality.
In short, the main reasons you'd pay for a more expensive Stan subscription are as follows:
- You want to watch shows or movies at the best quality possible
- You have multiple people using your account who all want to stream at once
- You want to download content for offline viewing to more than one device
The $14 per month Standard plan will typically be the best choice for more users.
If your needs change, you're able to upgrade or download your plan whenever you want.
Can I try Stan before I buy?
If you're still on the fence about Stan, you can always try it first. If you're a new customer, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial, during which you'll have access to the entire Stan library.
You do however need to provide your credit card details to register for the trial. It's also important to note that you'll automatically be charged for the plan of your choice after your 30 days are up. The exact billing date and amount will be included in your welcome email, but you'll also find these under your account settings. To find them follow these steps:
- Log into Stan in a web browser on your PC or Mac
- Open the Manage Account page through the menu in the top right hand corner of your screen
- Scroll down to Subscription Information
Stan is a no-contract service, so you can cancel at any time. You can cancel your subscription by using the Cancel My Subscription button under Subscription Information.

What else do I need to know about Stan?
If you want to get the most out of a Stan subscription, you'll need an internet plan with enough data to handle everything you want to watch and connection that's fast enough.
How much data you need will depend on what quality you watch at. Stan uses between 600MB and 7GB per hour, although most Australian internet connections should handle Stan's "Medium" or "High" settings.
We've listed Stan's hourly data usage below, as well as how much data you'd burn through in a month if you were to watch an hour each night.

In general, we recommend that serious streamers want a plan with at least 500GB per month. Unlimited data plans are best if you don't want to monitor your usage, and they're now available almost everywhere, including on the NBN.
If you're an NBN subscriber, even an NBN 12 plan is fast enough for Stan. However, if you want to stream in 4K / Ultra HD, we'd recommend an NBN 50 plan.
