When you think of streaming TV, you probably think of movies and shows on Netflix. But the truth is you can watch just about anything online these days: including your favourite sports.
There are a lot of different options when it comes to tuning into your favourite sport. You can choose from pay TV packages, apps and free catch-up TV options. There are even ways to bundle subscriptions with your broadband or mobile plan and stream sports data-free. This list doesn't have everything, but we've covered the major options.
Kayo
Cost: $25 per month or $35 per month for premium
Want access to all of the sports on Foxtel, but don't want to pay the minimum $54 per month? You're in luck. Because you can now get every sport Foxtel has to offer for just $25 per month on the pay TV giant's new streaming service, Kayo.
Content on Kayo features over 50 sports, including:
- NRL
- AFL
- State of Origin (replays only)
- Super Rugby
- Cricket
- Soccer
- Tennis
- NFL
- NBL
- NHL
- UFC
- Golf
- Formula One
- World Surf League
Kayo also includes special sports streaming features like split screen, which lets you watch up to four different programs at once, and key moments which shows you the best parts of a match to skip to if you just want the highlights.
If you want to watch on your TV, at the moment there are limited options to choose from. The only streaming devices that support Kayo are Apple TV, Google Chromecast and Telstra TV. If you want to watch on your computer, Kayo will work with Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Edge. And there are also mobile and tablet apps for iOS and Android.
The $25 per month subscription will get you viewing on up to two devices simultaneously, while if you shell out $35 per month for a premium subscription you'll get three devices.
All the latest mobile and internet news and deals, delivered every Monday.
Foxtel Now
Cost: $54 per month for access to Starter and Sports packs
If you want access to Kayo content and some premium TV shows too, you might want to get a subscription to Foxtel Now.
With Foxtel Now, you can get access to all the same sports you can watch on Kayo, you just have to buy a $25 entertainment starter pack first. The Starter pack will get you access to selected premium shows from Foxtel like Game of Thrones, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Westworld.
Once you've got the Starter pack you'll need to add Sports for an extra $29. This will get you all of Kayo's content. But note you won't have access to Kayo special features like 'split-screen' and 'key moments'.

Optus Sport
Minimum cost: $14.99 per month, $139 annually, or free with a range of Optus mobile and internet plans
If you're a football fan, Optus Sport might be the service for you. Programming is 24/7 international football with access to all matches from the English Premier League, plus FIFA Women's World Cup, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and other international matches.
You can stream the games live or replay on demand, and there's news, interviews, highlights and press conferences so you can dive deep into every match.
Whereas Optus Sport was once available only to Optus customers, it's now open to all for $14.99 per month. Subscriptions also come free with many Optus postpaid mobile plans. These plans also allow you to stream Optus Sport data-free. Here's a selection:
beIN SPORTS Connect
Cost: $19.95 per month
beIN SPORTS is a group of three pay TV sports channels with three focuses: football, rugby and tennis. Programming is international with a European focus.
All three channels are included in both the Foxtel Now and Kayo sports packages (above). Alternatively, you can get all three channels through a beIN SPORTS Connect subscription, which you can stream using your computer, Apple AirPlay, Chromecast or iOS and Android apps.

Fetch TV
Cost: $25.95 per month ($6 channel starter pack + $19.95 for beIN Sports)
If you like the idea of beIN sports but fancy some entertainment extras as well, you might want to look at Fetch TV.
Fetch TV is an internet TV service similar to Foxtel and comes with many of the same channels. You build your subscription by choosing one of four $6 channel packs focusing on either kids shows, sports, docos, or entertainment and drama.
Fetch TV does require a set-top box, with two choices: the Fetch TV Mini ($169) or the Fetch TV Mighty ($449). But the cost of the set-top box as well as Fetch TV starter channel packs can be bundled with broadband from Optus, iiNet, Dodo, iPrimus, Internode and Westnet (for Westnet plans, see iiNet in our database).
Just note that if you bundle your Fetch TV box with your internet service, the box may be locked to your provider or you may have to return it to your provider when you leave their service.
Check out Fetch TV bundles:
While Dodo and Internode do not list the entertainment bundle as part of their plans, you can bundle a Fetch TV set-top box and one premium channel pack on top of most broadband plans from these providers.
Stan Sports
Cost: $10 add-on in addition to your usual Stan subscription costs.
Stan Sports is a brand new streaming service which will be available from February 19, 2021 as an addition to your Stan subscription. While there isn't a whole lot of information available right now, Nine has confirmed that Stan Sports will be home to Rugby, and other exclusive events such as Wimbeldon and the French Open.
