If you're looking to cut costs without sacrificing on quality - and, honestly, who isn't? - you can find some great deals with MATE. MATE is a new face in the industry but don't let that put you off - customers love the service. Just Google "product reviews MATE" and you'll see.
And what's not to love? The prices are competitive, customer support is 100% Sydney-based and every plan comes with unlimited data. Hell yeah, MATE.
With MATE there are no lock-in contracts so if you're still feeling iffy, remember that signing up is risk-free. You can cancel at any time and there are no termination fees. Unlike a lot of other no-contract deals around, MATE won't hit you with any set-up or "casual plan" fees. And they won't make you buy their modem, unlike some.
All MATE NBN plans come with unlimited data, so no need to guess how much you need or worry about going over.
MATE offer NBN at all four speeds. But the MATE Standard speed costs the same as the Standard Plus*, so unless you like slower internet for the same money (not likely!) your options are really:
*Unless you have a Fixed Wireless NBN connection (only in some rural locations).
Unlike a lot of the bigger players, MATE offer the NBN with or without a phone bundle. And if you do want to bundle, you'll get unlimited calls to local, national and mobile numbers for only $9 extra per month - no pay as you go (PAYG), no worries.
To find out if you're eligible for a MATE NBN plan, first check your address in our broadband search engine. If MATE is listed in the search results, congratulations: you're able to make the switch.
Once you've picked the plan that works best for you and your family, you can place an order directly with MATE either by phone or online. MATE will help you to organise an installation date and time, plus take care of transferring any current broadband plan you may have over to their own NBN service.
MATE can provide you with an NBN-ready modem, although you're free to bring your own compatible modem to any of the four plans. Customers purchasing a new modem from MATE will need to pay $149, but keep in mind that it comes fully pre-configured, unlocked, and ready to connect.
Another important thing to note: while installation is free for most customers, if you're located in a newly developed area with no existing telecommunications infrastructure, you may be charged a $300 New Development Fee by NBN.
How fast are MATE's NBN plans?
MATE offers four NBN speed options: Basic (up to 12Mbps), Standard (up to 25Mbps), Standard Plus (up to 50Mbps) and Premium (up to 100Mbps). The higher the Mbps, the faster your connection will be. See our NBN speed guide for more information.
What are my data options?
All MATE NBN plans are unlimited, so you'll never have to worry about exceeding your limit and paying extra (or suffering cut-off or slowed service).
Do I need to buy a new modem to sign up to MATE?
If you already have an NBN-ready modem, you can use it with any MATE broadband plan. However, MATE does offer pre-configured, ready-to-use modems for $149.
How do I know if my modem is NBN-ready?
If your home is connected to NBN using Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Building (FTTB), your modem will need to be VDSL-2 ready to access the NBN. Most modems sold within the last two years are, and you can use our FTTN and FTTB guides to check yours.
Other NBN connection types don't require a modem. See our guides on Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), HFC Cable and Fixed Wireless to find out what equipment you will need.
Can I keep my home phone number on MATE NBN?
If your home phone is already connected through the NBN, then yes, you can keep your current number.
If your home phone is connected through ADSL, you will need to change your phone number, unless it's currently on the Telstra network.
What happens if I want to cancel my MATE NBN plan?
As all of MATE's NBN plans are no-contract, you're free to cancel or change plans every month. However, if you do cancel just after making a monthly payment, you won't receive a refund for the following month's plan cost.
Does MATE offer ADSL plans?
Yes, MATE offers ADSL internet with unlimited data, no-contract and no set-up fees. MATE ADSL plans are BYO modem. Per-month costs of an ADSL plan with MATE will vary depending on your location.
